The Field, Strelley

Wilding.  Education.  Community.

What we do...

This Field - only four miles from Nottingham City Centre - was once the site of open cast mining, and then intensive agriculture. For a long time it has served humans.

Now, we want to bring local people together to help it work for wildlife, through micro-wilding.

Over the past two years, we have planted hundreds of trees, sewn a wildflower meadow and dug two ponds - everything we can to create our own eco system!

In time, we hope this site will be a haven for every sort of life. But there is lots of work still to be done, from planting trees to building bat boxes and hedgehog houses.

But it is not just wildlife we care about. We want people learn about nature, and feel its restorative power. That's why we are developing a community garden. Anyone is welcome to help us grow fruit, vegetables and flowers, as well as to learn about the natural world. These will soon be regular sessions, so stay tuned.

School Groups

From pond dipping to fire building, from planting trees to insect spotting, we want students to enjoy nature - that is how a generation of conservationists is made!

We are currently hosting visits from a number of schools in Nottingham, Broxtowe and Derbyshire, developing lesson plans for all different ages.

If you would be interested in organising a group visit, please email us on fieldstrelley@fieldstrelley.org, or ring/text 07738681365.
